The 2013 Cycling Season is Well Underway.

The cycling season is well underway here in Australia and the focus for me in 2013 is the UWCT Finals (Age Group World Champsionships) which are being held in Trento, Italy.  Trento is a town in Trentino and is famous in the cycling world for the Monte Bondone that has hosted a Giro d’Italia stage finish or two over the years.

The UWCT Final races will finish at the top of the Monte Bondone, and tackling this climb in race conditions is something that I am actually really looking forward to!

I must admit that I don’t know a whole lot about the climb which we will be starting from Trento and climbing to the top so I’m going to have to do a little research.  My understanding is that stage 15 of the 2006 Giro d’Italia rode the back side of the climb which you can watch on YouTube.

(It's kind of interesting watching cycling from this era... how many of the riders in the lead group have been implicated/busted for PEDs like EPO/CERA since 2006.)

I’ve never been to Europe before and this is a trip I’m really looking forward to, I will be taking my family with me and then post-race we will be spending a few weeks travelling through Italy and making way to Paris before flying back home with a stop-over in Singapore.  I think I’m more excited for my kids than myself to be honest.

It’s funny, I don’t consider myself well-travelled at all (and wont pretend to after this trip either) but after this trip I will have been on five different continents, those being Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and of course Australia by default.  Not too bad really I guess but let’s not get too excited as my visited countries count is not overly impressive; Singapore, South Africa, Thailand and the USA.

I know it’s been a long time since I last blogged on a regular basis but I am hoping that I can get a few blog posts together for the rest of the season and as a prelude to my trip to Italy.  Stay tuned and feel free to give me a hard time if/when I slacken off.
